reporting live in boston, tory done last name -- dunnin.. >> and after a gun battle. the suspect, joe- kar tsarnaev, was captured by police. tsarnaev is now in serious condition at the hospital. dramatic video has been released of the shootout between police and the it was recorded by a neighbor who, like so many in the boston area yesterday, were ordered to stay in their homes. nearly 50 shots fired in the exchange. all while the suspect was holed up in a boat. after running from police early friday morning. >> president obama took a moment to acknowledge law the suspect in massachusetts. he says there are a lot of unanswered questions. including why the brothers who grew up and studied in the u-s would resort to such violence. >> what ever hateful agenda drove these men to these attacks. whatever they

thought they would achieve they have already failed. they have failed because the people of boston refused to be intimidated. americans refused to be terrorized. they failed because we're not going to waver from the character. and the compassion and the values that define this country. >> the family of the wife of the older brother, tamerlan tsarnayev, released this statement friday. quote, " we cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred." in the aftermath of the patriot's day horror, we know that we never really knew tamerlan sar-na-ev. it goes on to say that, "our hearts are sickened by the knowledge of the horror he has inflicted." the family has asked for privacy at this time. >> the eleven- year-old martinez boy who was injured in the boston bombings,

aaron hern is steadily recovering. this according to administrators at his school, who have been receiving e-mail updates from the hern family. in the last few days, hern underwent surgeries at boston's children's hospital. first lady michelle obama even stopped by to visit aaron on thursday following the interfaith service in boston. and in a story you will only see here on kron four. besides sending hundreds of get well cards. aaron hern's classmates made a video to send him to show their support. friday, the entire student body at martinez junior high school , gathered on the school's quad to record the following. listen in. >> we're following the latest developments out of boston. on the capture of 19 year old joe-khar tsarnaev tsahr-ny'-ev. he's one of two suspects believed to be behind twin explosions at monday's marathon, killing three people and injuring more than 180 others. new video overnight shows a vigil at the finish line for the victims of the attack. right now, tsarnaev is being held at a hospital after being captured yesterday outside a home in watertown, massachusetts. the arrest happened just blocks away from where his older brother, twenty-six- year-old tamerlan tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with police earlier friday.

a friend of the surviving brother is wondering why dzhokar got involved in the bombings. >> i would say that sibling influence is a big, big thing. you would be surprised what an older sibling ca what a younger sibling can make do. it was amazing that we were able to capture him alive so we can get more information. >> the brothers are also suspected of killing a massachusetts institute of technology police officer during their spree. >> authorities are also focusing their investigation on the tweets sent out by dzhokar tsarnaev before and after the bombing. our tech reporter gabe slate has that part of our coverage. >> let us take a look at this twitter a county only one mention the boston marathon on august 2012. he was responding to somebody

else's reference. he says that boston marathon is not a good place to smoke. we cannot see the first part of the conversation we do not know the context if it is relevant or not. and on april 7th, one week before the bombing he said that if you have the knowledge and the inspiration the only action you have is to take action. this was about five actors hours and he followed with only just one half of the conversation and the victims of tragedy? el a o l, those people are and he said that there are people that know the truth and stay silent. 24 hours later, on tuesday he said that everybody wanted to talk like they have something to say but nothing comes out. when they move their lips just a lot of gibberish. he

gradual cooling but pretty nice conditions. mid '80s. marty? >> thank-you, janu. more than 100 people gathered at saratoga high school friday night for a candlelight vigil. in memory of audrie pott. pott is the teenager who committed suicide last year, after being sexually assaulted and then taunted with photos and videos of the assault. audrie's friends and family hope the vigil will bring more attention to the circumstances leading up to her death. they have a message to the three boys who attacked the teen. >> i just want more girls to be aware of what happened to them and boys need to be smarter. and understand that when you do sothat to someone is really messes them up and they did not kill her physically but they killed her and another way. i want them to sit down and understand and how much they heard someone. we lost

someone that we love. >> audrie's friends and family say she was loved by many. a banner was the centerpiece of the vigil and was left for friends and classmates to remember audrie. >> the man carjacked by christopher dorner says the city of los angeles owes him a million dollars. dorner is the rogue ex-cop believed to have killed four people before dying in a shootout with police back in february. camp ranger rick rel-te- brake believes his 9-1-1 call led police to dorner's hideout. now, he's planning to sue for the million-dollar reward offered in the case. a couple who called police after dorner tied them up are also claiming the cash. the l-a-p-d says three former judges are going to decide who, if anyone, gets the money. meantime, new sheriff's transcripts show that in the final two hours of the manhunt for dorner, sheriff's deputies didn't fire a single shot. there was a gun battle shortly after dorner entered a cabin in the mountains northeast of february twelfth. during which one deputy was

boys. but *not for openly gay adults. at least one bay area lawmaker says the policy change doesn't go far enough. state senator leland yee is urging the boy scouts to fully end discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. >> airlines and the nation's largest pilots union are joining forces to sue the federal aviation administration. they're upset over the f-a- a's decision to furlough air traffic controllers because of the automatic spending cuts required by congress. the lawsuit is asking a federal court in washington to block the furloughs. they are scheduled to kick in sunday. airline officials say the f- a-a could have found other ways to save money. and while the move is expected to save an estimated 200 million dollars, fewer controllers might mean longer delays at some of the nation's busiest airports.

>> a powerfull earthquake hitting china's sichuan province has killed at least 113 people. the death toll expected to climb sharply. china's seismological bureau says the magnitude seven quake struck in the steep hills of lushan county shortly after eight a-m. multiple aftershocks jolted the area injuring thousands of people. more than 2-thousand soldiers rushed to the area for rescue and relief work. the military set up a quake relief and rescue and medical headquarters for the quake-hit region. coming up on kron 4 news weekend. we will have the latest details in the investigation of the boston marathon bombing suspects.

celebrations broke out in the streets of boston last night. as residents who had been on lockdown nearly all day got word of the capture of djohkar tsarnaev. the motive behind the boston marathon bombings remains unknown. but investigators are trying to get to the bottom of that. many people have questions about what will happen next to tsarnaev who is currently recovering in the hospital kron 4's philippe djegal has some answers. the parents of the two suspects now live in the russian republic of dagestan. the father was angry and distraught when he spoke about the death of his eldest son. and, despite the arrest of his youngest, he still stands by his two boys. >> "someone framed them. i don't know who exactly did it, but someone did, and being cowards, they shot the boy dead. there are cops >> reporter: : are very religious. and, describes them as peaceful and certainly not dangerous. >> "impossible, impossible for both of them to do such things, so i am my sons wouldn't keep it a secret. my family would tell me, my

sons wouldn't keep it in secret." >> reporter: in the meantime, three people who are possibly connected to joe-harr sarr nay-eff, have reportedly been taken into federal custody in new bedford, for questioning. investigators are trying to gather as much information on sarr nay-eff as possible. as for his fate. >> "the u-s attorney will prepare a complaint." because of these extraordinary circumstances he might even be arraigned tomorrow if these and medically shape. >> that was phillipe djegal, reporting. within the next month, legal analysts say the boston marathon bombing suspect.19- year-old dzhokhar tsarnaev. will be indicted by a grand jury. then the case is assigned to a district

judge. a justice department official says tsarnaev will not be read his miranda rights because the government is invoking a public safety exception. that exception is triggered when police have an objectively reasonable need to protect the police or the public from immediate danger. tsarnaev will be questioned by a special federal interrogation team for high-value suspects. >> president barak obama and republicans used their weekly addresses to celebrate the resolve americans demonstrated after the attack on the boston marathon. in the address obama emphsized that "the world witnessed one sure and steadfast truth: americans refuse to be terrorized." >> ultimately, that's what we'll remember from this week. that's what will remain. stories of heroism and kindness; resolve and resilience; generosity and love. in the days to come, we will remain vigilant as a nation. and i have no doubt the city of boston and its surrounding communities will continue to respond in the same proud and heroic

way that they have thus far - and their fellow americans will be right there with them every step of the way. may god bless the people of boston and the united states of america. >> now lets take a look back.the terror all started on patriot's day in massachusetts. monday, april 15th. but it was yesterday -- april 19th -- when america could first breathe a sigh of relief. here is kron 4's pam moore with a timeline of what happened in between. >> pam: the dramatic events of the past 24 hours unfolded in cambridge and watertown, west of boston ten o'clock thursday night, eastern time: a convenience store robbery in cambridge. by chance a security camers catches a picture of suspect number two, although police say he was not the robber. a short distance away, an m.i.t. campus police officer is shot and killed in his car ten minutes after that, the two suspects carjacked an suv. at about 11 p=m.the driver is released here and the

two brothers drive east towards watertown. shortly after one a.m., police in watertown spot the stolen car, and a furious gunbattle breaks out. 15 police officers are wounded, one of them critically. supect one is injured. his brother escapes by driving over him. at 1:35 a.m. tamurlahn sarnyev is pronounced dead, the manhunt for his brother spreads to boston, where residents are urged to lock their doors and stay inside. transit is shut down. the red sox cancel their game. heavily armed police conduct door to door searches. as night falls. their attention turns to a boat stored in a watertown back yard. reports of gunfire. then confirmation that boston's week of fear had ended, >> back was pam, morthat was

pam moore... >> the m.i.t. officer who was shot and killed during the manhunt was honored yesterday by his colleagues. a procession was held in cambridge for 26-year-old sean collier. police believe he was killed by the boston marathon officer since january 2012. civilian employee with the somerville police we'll continue to bring you the latest updates on the investigation into the motive of the terror attack. throughout the morning on kron 4. and on our website. at kron4 dot com. federal funds are being directed toward the recovery efforts in west, texas. the death toll from wednesday's massive explosion is at 14. president obama has declared of a state of emergency. that's freed up federal disaster funds to support local responders in texas. but residents have a lot of cleaning up to do. the blast was so big it registered as a 2-point-1- magnitude earthquake. and it damaged not only the plant but nearby homes, too, displacing many in the small town of 28-hundred. let's take a quick look outside this morning golden gate bridge let's check in with meteorologist janu arasu for your forecast .

>> the unofficial event "4- 20 in the park" will kick off in san francisco today.celebrating the day referring to the code term for marijuana. no permits are issued for the event and it's not really legal. but usually the city tends to turn a blind eye when more than five thousand people turn up on hippie hill in golden

gate park each year for a giant smoke out. the event is free and is set to start at about 10:30 a-m and end just after four in the afternoon. san francisco police say although the event is illegal it is not a law enforcement priority. drinking water-noncompliance epa: california's department of public health is keeping tight-lipped after being admonished by the environmental protection agency for failing to spend $455 million in federal funding to improve the state's water infrastructure. the state agency has acknowledged it received a letter of non-compliance for holding on to the program's largest unspent sum in the nation. but it says it has no immediate comment about the revelation. epa regional administrator the has to alread6 c3i water acco fund. the state has 60 to come up with an improvement plan - or the epa may6 c a woman hit by an alameda county sheriff's vehicle has been released from the hospital. and booked into jail. kron 4 was live on the scene in hayward yesterday around 5 a-m. after a deputy hit the woman and a man she was walking with. the man died as a result of the crash.and the woman suffered non-life- threatening injuries. authorities say the woman was carrying narcotics. she's now being held in county jail. police have not yet released the names of the crash victims, or the deputy who was driving. coming up on kron 4 news weekend. weather is warming up in the bay area. we'll have your saturday forecast next.

at the boston terror we're following the latest developments out of boston. on the capture of 19 year ny'-ev. he's one of two suspects explosions at monday's marathon, killing three people and injuring more than 180 others. new video overnight shows a vigil at the finish line for the victims of the attack. right now, tsarnaev is being held at a hospital after being captured yesterday outside a home in watertown, massachusetts. the arrest happened just blocks away from where his older brother, twenty-six- year-old tamerlan tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with police earlier friday. a friend of the surviving brother is wondering why dzhokar got involved in the bombings. >> i was surprised. i would think that it would be older sibling influence. i am glad that he was apprehended, and able to capture him alive so we can get more information. >> the brothers are also suspected of killing a massachusetts institute of technology police officer during their spree. >> authorities are also

>> reporter: the parents of the two suspects now live in the russian republic of dagestan. the father was angry and distraught when he spoke about the death of his eldest son. and, despite the arrest of his youngest, he still stands by his two boys. >> "someone framed them. i don't know who exactly did it, but someone did, and being cowards, they shot the boy dead. there are cops like this. >> reporter: the mother saying both sons are very religious. and, describes them as peaceful and certainly not dangerous. >> "impossible, impossible for both of them to do such things, so i am my sons wouldn't keep it a secret. my family would tell me, my sons wouldn't keep it in secret." >> reporter: in the meantime, three people who are possibly connected to joe-harr sarr nay-eff, have reportedly been taken into federal custody in new bedford, for questioning. investigators are trying to gather as much information on sarr nay-eff as possible.

as for his fate. >> "the u-s attorney will prepare a complaint." this will be an affidavit by an fbi agent that will lay out the specifics of the case and then he will have an arraignment. he will have a defense attorney and under normal circumstances somebody arrested on a friday night would not be arraigned until friday monday. however, he could be a rate as early as saturday if he is medically up to it. >> within the next month, legal analysts say the boston marathon bombing suspect.19-year-old dzhokhar tsarnaev. will be indicted by a grand jury. then the case is assigned to a district judge. a justice department official says tsarnaev will not be read his miranda rights because the government is invoking a public safety exception. when police have an objectively reasonable need to protect the police or the public from immediate danger. tsarnaev will be questioned by a special federal interrogation team for high- value suspects.
